Councillors have delayed a decision on Lidl plans at Westover Retail Park in Bournemouth.
The application had been due for approval last week, but the planning committee agreed to defer the decision to allow outstanding matters to be resolved and to clarify points raised by both Lidl and an objector before the scheme returns next month.
Lidl first applied in twenty twenty three to build a new supermarket at the site, but the proposal was refused after it failed to provide land for a walking and cycling network linked to the wider area.
An amended application was submitted in April twenty twenty five, including a dedicated cycle route on Castle Lane West, which reduced the size of both the store and its car park.
Three objections were received, including one from rival supermarket Tesco, and the application was called into committee by Councillor Joe Salmon, who welcomed the delay and said it must lead to meaningful changes.
Councillor Salmon said, “Residents will be relieved that this hasn’t been rushed through,” adding that concerns remain about impacts on the high street, efficient use of the land and the lack of housing locally.
