Funding backs new trees across BCP
New trees and hedges will be planted across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole after funding was secured to expand local planting.
The £64,000 will support more than 30 new street trees and over 1km of hedgerows at locations including Hengistbury Head, Boscombe’s Woodland Walk, Erlin Farm, Baiter Park, Two Riversmeet and greenspaces in Throop, with further planting planned across Winton, Stour Valley, Poole and Parkstone to improve local streets and open areas.
Funding from the neighbourhood community infrastructure levy will first be used in Newtown and Heatherlands, Winton East and Poole Town, areas identified as having lower tree equity scores, which assess how evenly tree cover is shared between neighbourhoods and help guide where new planting can bring the greatest benefit.
By focusing on these wards first, BCP Council aims to test a community led approach that looks at site selection, resident involvement and long term care, creating a model that can be extended to other parts of the area as further opportunities arise.
Planning work is expected to take place over the coming months, with planting scheduled for winter next year as part of wider efforts to support biodiversity and healthier neighbourhoods.
