Over 900 council homes planned in BCP

More than 900 new social housing homes are planned across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole by 2034/35 under long term housing and investment plans agreed by councillors.

The proposals form part of the BCP Homes Asset Management Plan and the Housing Revenue Account 30 Year Business Plan, aimed at maintaining and expanding council housing.

In total, 937 new homes are planned, with 257 expected to be delivered in 2027/28 and a further 680 scheduled by 2034/35.

The homes will include social rent and shared ownership, with £50,000 per home for major works and £7,500 per home for decarbonisation over 30 years.

Councillors heard that some homes are already being delivered, including six new properties recently completed at Craigmoor Avenue, Rochester Road and Grants Close.

The new homes are expected to have no gas supply, improved energy efficiency and lower household bills for residents.

Introducing the plans, Councillor Sandra Moore said, “This is a vital step in ensuring the sustainability of our council housing.”

She added that around 70 percent of council homes have had condition surveys in the past five years, with full coverage planned by 2026/27.

Councillors raised points about long term benefits, financial controls and community engagement before agreeing the plans by consensus.
