New plans submitted for M&S Poole food hall

Marks and Spencer is seeking permission from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to partially demolish the former Homebase building on Poole Road in Poole.

The planning application, submitted on 20 November, relates to part of the vacant retail unit at BH12 1DN and is described as partly retrospective. It is currently open for public comment until 12 December and is listed under application number P/25/04798/FUL.

This proposal follows an earlier application made by the retailer in August to convert the site into a new M&S Foodhall, which remains open for consultation until 8 December. A separate application to alter the building’s roof was lodged earlier this month, with consultation on that plan also due to close on 12 December.

According to the documents, all three applications are expected to be determined by council planning officers under delegated powers rather than being referred to a committee.

If approved, the project would see the former DIY store given a new lease of life after several years of vacancy, marking a significant investment by M&S in the Poole area.

A separate bulky goods store is also planned for part of the unit.
