Green Party membership surge in BCP
Membership of the Green Party in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole has increased by more than 150 per cent in recent months.
The local branch confirmed it reached 1,000 members on 31 October, reflecting a wider national surge since Zack Polanski became leader in September. The party now has more than 150,000 members across England and Wales.
BCP Green Party says the rise reflects public frustration with the Labour government and the ongoing cost of living crisis, alongside renewed energy under its new leadership.
Local successes have also been credited for the growth, with councillors highlighting achievements such as securing grants for community spaces, tackling fly-tipping and organising regular litter picks.
Councillor Simon Bull said the increase shows that people are turning to the Green Party because they see an alternative to the traditional two-party system and a politics of division.
