Bus stop clearways proposed for Kinson Road
Two bus stop clearways have been proposed on Kinson Road in Bournemouth to improve access for bus passengers following changes to nearby school street arrangements.
Hadow Road in Kinson has become a school street, with temporary parking restrictions during drop-off and pick-up times. This has pushed some parking onto Kinson Road, creating congestion and preventing buses from pulling in properly at stops.
To address the issue, bus clearway notices are now in place outside 192 and 225 Kinson Road until 11 November. These restrictions prevent vehicles from parking close to bus stops, ensuring buses can stop flush with the kerb so passengers — particularly older or disabled people and those with pushchairs — can board and leave safely.
The changes also aim to keep roads around schools safer and less polluted by reducing congestion and encouraging walking and cycling.
Consultation has recently closed on a school street at Kingsleigh/Bourne Academy, with the council now reviewing feedback before deciding whether to make the scheme permanent.
A third school street trial will begin on 10 November under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order for Malvern Road and Beatty Road near St Walburga’s Catholic Primary School.
The trial will run until May 2026, giving residents time to experience the scheme and share their views before a final decision is made.
