Garden waste charge rises for 2026

Waste Collection Lorry

The cost of garden waste collection in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is set to rise in 2026, with residents now able to register for the new service.

The annual charge will increase to £71 per bin and covers fortnightly collections of garden waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves and small branches. The price has gone up by £3.50 since last year, with the council saying this reflects increases in service costs and inflation.

Since 2020, the cost of garden waste collection has risen by 54 per cent. From next year, residents will no longer receive bin stickers or printed calendars. Instead, collection crews will use an electronic record of registered addresses and collection dates can be viewed online, as part of the council’s commitment to sustainability.

Councillor Andy Hadley, portfolio holder for environment, said the service continues to play an important role in reducing landfill and supporting recycling. “Over the past year, we collected over 12,000 tonnes of garden waste, helping to divert valuable organic material from landfill,” he said. “By moving calendars online and removing stickers, we’re streamlining the service while reducing waste.”

Residents are encouraged to register by 31 December to receive all 23 collections for the 2026 service.
