Support grows for 20mph zone in Winton
A new 20mph neighbourhood could soon be introduced in parts of Bournemouth following a public consultation.
Winton and surrounding areas, including Charminster, Moordown and Talbot Woods, have been selected as the first location for the scheme, which was approved by the Council in April last year.
Between March 18 and April 28, households and individuals were asked for their views on the plans. The results show that half of households in the proposed area support the introduction of the lower speed limit. Among individuals living within the zone, 44 percent said they were in favour.
Councillor Chris Rigby said that across every form of engagement, a majority of local residents supported introducing the 20mph scheme.
He added that feedback from residents had directly influenced changes to the proposal, including extending it to cover Talbot Road.
“Given the clear local support and the improvements made, I’ll be backing the 20mph scheme as the majority of Winton East residents are in favour,” said Councillor Rigby.
If approved, the 20mph neighbourhood will be the first of its kind in Bournemouth, aiming to make streets safer and more pleasant for residents, pedestrians and cyclists.
