Europe’s largest operational steamship will arrive at Poole Quay for five days of events this week.
Shieldhall is expected near the Sea Music sculpture at about 5.30pm on Thursday, following a one-way voyage from Southampton featuring live music from the Shieldhall Stompers.
A “free open day” on Friday, forming part of the Poole Work Boat Open Day, will give visitors an opportunity to step aboard while the vessel is in steam and explore its maritime heritage.
On Saturday, Shieldhall will depart Poole Quay for a Jurassic Coast cruise, with shanty music performed by the Wareham Whalers during the trip along Dorset’s coastline.
Further daytime cruises on Sunday will offer views of Old Harry Rocks and The Needles, before the ship’s visit concludes the following morning.
Shieldhall is scheduled to leave Poole at about 11.30am on Monday for a one-way steam voyage back to Southampton, with coach return options also available.
Organisers say the programme provides an opportunity to see the “historic vessel in action” during its stay on Poole Quay.
