New Forest District Council is continuing to support teams responding to the A31 heathland fire.
Council officers are working with emergency services and partner organisations, helping to keep communities informed while monitoring potential effects on residents, visitors, businesses and council services as the response continues across the New Forest.
The fire service remains in charge of the incident, with council staff supporting the operation both on site and remotely, linking incident control, emergency planning teams and council services so they can respond quickly if circumstances change.
Council leader Councillor Jill Cleary thanked those involved and said the council’s role was to “support the emergency response” and help protect communities, while describing the damage to the internationally important heathland as “deeply concerning”.
The council is also working with partners to prepare for recovery after the incident is brought under control, including support for affected communities, services, access routes and the local environment.
Residents and visitors are being thanked for their patience and asked to continue following emergency service advice and avoid the affected area.
Meanwhile, crews from Verwood Fire Station have shared photos of the incident after their arrival at the scene on Sunday.
