Poole cruise planned for solar eclipse

A special cruise will leave Poole Quay during August’s partial solar eclipse over Dorset.

Coastal Cruises says the Sunset Solar Eclipse Cruise will take place on Wednesday 12 August, leaving Poole Quay at 6pm and returning at 8pm, as the Moon passes across part of the Sun.

Passengers will be able to watch from open viewing decks, while indoor lounges, an onboard bar and live commentary from the crew will also be available during the 2 hour trip around Poole Harbour.

Managing director Carol Scott said events like this “don’t come along very often” and described the cruise as a chance to see the eclipse from the water with family and friends.

People planning to look at the eclipse must bring ISO 12312-2 certified solar eclipse glasses, as ordinary sunglasses do not provide enough protection when looking directly at the Sun, and advance booking is recommended because places are limited.
