Bournemouth podiatrist wins lifetime award

Bournemouth consultant podiatrist Debbie Sharman has received the Royal College of Podiatry Diamond Lifetime Achievement Award for her significant contribution to podiatric care, especially for people living with diabetes.

Debbie Sharman, who leads the podiatry team at Dorset HealthCare, has played a key role in developing the county’s diabetic foot service and improving diabetes foot care across the region.

Her work has included providing clinical leadership, raising standards, and strengthening collaboration with other organisations to manage complex diabetic foot conditions.

She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Podiatric Medicine, a visiting lecturer at the University of Southampton, and has served on the executive committee of Foot in Diabetes UK.

Debbie recently completed eight years as a specialist panel member for the Health and Care Professions Council, contributing to the regulation and development of healthcare professionals. The Diamond Award is the highest honour from the Royal College of Podiatry and is limited to just twenty-five living recipients at any time.

Debbie said she was honoured to be recognised by her professional peers for her career devoted to improving care for people with diabetes and supporting the podiatry profession.
