Bournemouth media panel backs local storytelling
A local business event has highlighted how storytelling can shape stronger communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The Chewing the Fat event, organised by Dan Ware, brought together business leaders, public sector representatives and local media voices for a panel discussion focused on how organisations can better share their own stories and highlight positive developments across the area.
Speakers including Hayley Jones-Dowling and Benjamin Paessler from the Bournemouth Echo, Scott Wright from Bournemouth University, Liz Hutchings from Total Guide to Dorset, and Bournemouth One’s co-founder and CEO Roy Martin.
Together they discussed the shift in how businesses communicate, with the key message that organisations no longer need to wait to be covered and should instead use their own platforms.
The panel encouraged businesses to “tell the stories” of local success, share progress and promote what is working well, while also strengthening links with traditional media by sending press releases and updates directly to news outlets.
Attendees were also urged to communicate and collaborate more, with the discussion highlighting how consistent storytelling and shared messaging can help build stronger local networks and support a more connected and informed community.
The event was held at BOMO House and is the latest meeting by The Spark.
