Poole Town draw in derby with Dorchester
Poole Town picked up a point away at Dorchester Town after a closely fought Dorset derby finished 1-1 on Saturday.
Poole made 1 change from the defeat to Gloucester City with Ik Hill coming into the starting line-up in place of Samuel Ayo Faniyan, as both sides began cautiously with Dorchester creating the first opportunity of the afternoon.
Joe Parker delivered a dangerous cross into the Poole penalty area which Corey Jordan met with a header, although the effort went over the bar, while Poole gradually grew into the game and created several openings during the first half.
Shaquille Gwengwe forced a good save from goalkeeper Monty Marriott from a tight angle during Poole’s best spell of the half, although Dorchester also threatened late on when Marcus Daws sent an effort narrowly past the post before the interval.
The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute when Ik Hill lifted a cross into the area and Gwengwe was on hand to finish and give Poole the lead, but Dorchester responded quickly through former Poole player Marcus Daws.
Daws fired past Adam Parkes to bring the hosts level, and despite late pressure from Dorchester, determined defending ensured Poole held on for a point before returning to Tatnam next Saturday to face Taunton Town.
