Two internationally recognised world music acts are set to perform at Lighthouse in Poole.
New concerts by Grammy-winning artist Arooj Aftab and the returning African Soul Rebels have been confirmed as part of the Music Beyond Mainstream touring network, adding to the previously announced Max Cooper date on Saturday 17 May.
Lighthouse Music Programmer John Blakeley said hosting the artists in Poole was important for broadening the venue’s live programme, adding that Arooj Aftab’s collaboration with the London Contemporary Orchestra would usually be associated with larger cities.
Arooj Aftab will appear on Thursday 18 June, performing with the London Contemporary Orchestra conducted by its co-founder Robert Ames, following international acclaim for albums including Vulture Prince and Night Reign, as well as appearances at major festivals worldwide.
African Soul Rebels return on Saturday 3 October, bringing Les Amazones d’Afrique and Malawian musician Gasper Nali, with the tour marking a revival of a Lighthouse strand that previously ran from 2005 until 2011, focused on African and global music traditions.
