Family exhibition to open at Upton Gallery

A creative family from Bournemouth is opening a joint exhibition bringing poetry, visual art and bookmaking together.

The Sale family will present The Living Line at The Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park, bringing together the work of poet James Sale, artist Linda Sale and writer and bookbinder Joseph Sale in a shared exploration of how creative practice can develop across generations.

The exhibition centres on the idea of an ongoing conversation between text, image and object, showing how individual approaches intersect while remaining distinct, with shared values of craft, care and dialogue shaping the work on display throughout the gallery space.

James Sale’s contribution focuses on poetry and books shaped by formal structure and philosophical thinking, while Joseph Sale combines poetry, fiction and hand bookbinding, extending written work into physical form through careful material choices and design.

Linda Sale completes the exhibition with mixed media artworks exploring light, symmetry, nature and the human figure, with colour and form used to create a visual language that sits alongside the written work, reflecting a family connection rooted in creativity.

The Living Line exhibition is open from February 5th – 11th 2026 at The Gallery Upstairs, Upton Country Park, Poole BH17 7BJ.

Open daily between 10.00 and 16.00 with Free entry.
