Care home demolition plans lodged in town
A proposal to replace a Christchurch care home with a house has been submitted.
Plans have been lodged with BCP Council for outline permission, with all matters reserved, to demolish Avondene care home and redevelop the site into a single dwelling, including a detached garage and generous space to the front for parking.
The applicant says the building is nearing the end of its operational life and is no longer fit for purpose, with facilities requiring significant upgrades to meet modern standards, while residents will move to Silverways Nursing Home to maintain care provision.
Christchurch Housing Society owns more than 620 affordable flats for older residents and also manages Silverways Nursing Home and two community lunch clubs, with separate permission already granted to expand Silverways by adding bedrooms, communal areas and office space.
The proposal is open to public consultation until February 13 under planning application number P/25/04828/OUT, after which council officers are expected to review the submission before reaching a decision on the site.
