Help give Upton House its next chapter

Residents are being encouraged to help shape a long-term plan for Upton House as work begins to secure its future and address the challenges facing the historic building.

The Grade II listed Georgian mansion sits at the centre of Upton Country Park, where improvements to the grounds and visitor facilities have already taken place following National Lottery funding.

Council leaders say the House itself now requires significant attention, with rising repair costs, limited accessibility, energy-efficiency demands and parking constraints all affecting its viability.

Specialist heritage consultants are now working with the Council to explore new and financially sustainable uses that would allow the House to be used more fully, complement the wider Country Park and attract future investment.

A Council spokesperson said the priority is finding ways to bring the building back to life, make it accessible to everyone and ensure local people remain closely involved.

Residents are invited to submit ideas through an online virtual ideas board until 8 February this year. Suggestions may include cultural and learning spaces, event and function rooms, cafés or restaurants, wellbeing facilities, workspaces, accommodation or a blend of several options. All proposals will be reviewed, with shortlisted concepts expected to be shared for wider consultation in spring this year.
