Julia’s House is planning a modest expansion at its Dorset hospice in Broadstone to improve its care for children with life-limiting conditions.
A planning application has been submitted to Dorset Council for a single-storey extension to the north side of the existing building. The new space would allow the hospice to add a second fully accessible palliative care suite and reconfigure its current first-floor accommodation.
The hospice currently offers three bedrooms upstairs, but these will be redesigned to provide two more suitable rooms. Once the changes are complete, the building will include four fully accessible suites with added space for family members.
In the submitted application, Julia’s House is described as a “well-known and respected local children’s charity” that provides care and support for families across Dorset. The Broadstone site already offers day care, overnight accommodation and palliative care.
According to the plans, the proposed changes aim to “significantly enhance the care that the hospice can provide”.
The hospice remains open and fully operational as it awaits the outcome of the planning process.
