More than 500 new electric vehicle chargers will be installed across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole over the next three years as part of a major project to support greener transport.
The scheme, funded by the Department for Transport’s Local EV Infrastructure fund and private sector investment, will see a total of 564 on-street chargers delivered, offering 1,128 charging sockets for public use.
Councillor Andy Hadley, BCP Council cabinet member for climate response, environment and energy, said the project aims to help residents without on-street parking and make charging more accessible and affordable in residential areas.
The rollout will happen in three phases, with the first 150 chargers installed by March 2027, followed by 204 more by March 2028, and the final 210 by March 2029.
Sites have been identified across every locality in the BCP area, with efforts made to avoid placing chargers directly outside people’s homes.
The new infrastructure is designed to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, which now outnumber diesel and petrol cars registered in the area. The chargers will be delivered by Connected Kerb.
