Rachel Farrell confirmed as Dorset Police chief

Rachel Farrell has been confirmed as the next Chief Constable of Dorset Police.

The current Deputy Chief Constable was approved following a confirmation hearing by the Dorset Police and Crime Panel, after Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick named her as his preferred candidate in May.

She will succeed Chief Constable Amanda Pearson, who is retiring later this summer, and will formally take up the role after serving in senior policing positions across Dorset and Hampshire for more than 30 years.

Rachel Farrell has held leadership roles involving serious and complex crime, major investigations and protecting vulnerable people. As Deputy Chief Constable, she has also helped provide strategic leadership and deliver services across Dorset.

She said she was “delighted and honoured” to lead Dorset Police, adding that her focus would remain on keeping people safe, supporting victims, bringing offenders to justice and earning public confidence.

David Sidwick said Rachel Farrell understood local communities and the pressures facing modern policing, while thanking Amanda Pearson for her leadership and service before retirement.
