Work has begun on a major scheme to provide new homes and facilities in Boscombe.
A groundbreaking ceremony at Hawkwood Road marked the start of construction on the BCP Council project, which will create community facilities, public spaces and 68 council-owned homes as part of the wider Boscombe Towns Fund regeneration programme.
The scheme is supported by £13.2 million from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and £9.6 million from Homes England towards the new homes.
AJC Group will deliver the development in 2 phases. The first will include a 2-storey community centre, retail kiosks, public realm improvements and a pedestrian link, while the second will provide homes, commercial space, a public park and supporting infrastructure.
Councillor Kieron Wilson said the work marked “an important step forward for Boscombe”, adding that long-term plans were becoming “real change for residents”.
Harry Secombe, Chair of the Boscombe Towns Fund Strategic Board, said the new centre would provide a lasting place for people to meet, learn and support one another.
Initial work will focus on site preparation and infrastructure before the first phase takes shape.
