BCP Council councillors and staff gathered outside the Civic Centre in Bournemouth to remember Jo Cox.
The Labour MP for Batley and Spen was murdered on 16 June 2016 as she arrived at a constituency surgery.
Council chairman Councillor Lesley Dedman, cabinet member Councillor Richard Herrett and Labour group leader Councillor Patrick Canavan spoke at the commemoration.
They reflected on Jo Cox’s legacy and her message that people have “far more in common” than that which divides them.
Speakers also highlighted concerns about abuse and intimidation faced by elected representatives, including councillors.
A Local Government Association survey found almost three quarters of councillors reported experiencing abuse or intimidation in the year to June 2025.
