BCP urges safe World Cup celebrations

BCP Council is supporting England during this summer’s World Cup while encouraging people to stay safe.

The council says major tournaments can bring communities together, but can also increase risks linked to alcohol, water safety, gambling harms and domestic abuse.

Residents are being urged not to drink and swim, and drivers are reminded to avoid alcohol completely if getting behind the wheel.

Pubs and licensed venues may be able to stay open later if England or Scotland reach the knockout stages because of a government order.

Councillor Kieron Wilson said people should celebrate responsibly, seek support if needed and help make the tournament a positive experience for the whole community.

Support is available through Dorset Police, BCP Council’s Up2U programme and gambling harm services.
