Residents in Moordown have started a petition calling for a local school crossing patrol officer, known as Martin, to be kept in place.
The petition says families are concerned after hearing the council may remove the role as part of cost-saving measures.
Supporters say the lollipop man has helped children cross a busy road safely for many years and is a valued part of the community.
BCP Council says no decisions have been made on individual school crossing patrol officers.
The council says it is assessing whether some sites could be upgraded with permanent crossings, such as zebra or button-controlled crossings.
Councillor Richard Herrett said children’s safety remains the priority and any future changes would only follow detailed assessments and road safety checks.
