Hotels across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are reporting a strong start to the summer season.
The BH Area Hospitality Association says businesses saw high occupancy during the Bank Holiday weekend and half-term, with many properties fully booked in advance and some having to turn guests away because of demand.
The group says the early boost follows a difficult period for hospitality and comes after the launch of its Check In. Chill Out. campaign, which promotes the area as a UK staycation destination.
Rosie Radwell, chair of BAHA, said it had been “one of the strongest Bank Holiday weekends” seen in recent years, adding that good forward bookings had given members confidence heading into the peak summer months.
The association says beaches remained the main draw for visitors, despite reports of anti-social behaviour and heavy traffic congestion in some areas.
BAHA has also been discussing the long-term future of the visitor economy with local stakeholders, including Jessica Toale MP.
Talks included the possible benefits of a locally administered tourism levy, with money ring-fenced for services and infrastructure supporting visitors and residents.
Ms Radwell said any levy should be additional funding, not a replacement for existing council spending, and would need full consultation with local businesses.
She said the area should remain “safe and welcoming”, with information available through the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole tourism websites.
