More than 100 roads in and around Winton will move to a new 20mph speed limit.
The change is due to come into effect on June 1 and will cover 139 roads across Winton and surrounding areas, including Charminster, Moordown and Talbot Woods.
The proposed 20mph zone is expected to improve safety for all road users, with particular focus on children, senior citizens, pedestrians and cyclists.
It is also expected to help reduce the number of personal injury and serious injury collisions, while supporting lower congestion, fewer emissions and better air quality.
Public engagement on the plans showed that most people living in the area supported the introduction of the “20mph neighbourhood”.
The roads were identified as a high priority after collision figures were reviewed for the period between 2019 and 2023.
During that time, 217 casualties were recorded from collisions in the area, including 36 people who suffered serious injuries.
The new speed limit will apply from June 1 as part of the wider move to create slower residential streets in Winton and nearby communities.
