Arrests after Bournemouth beach disorder

Dorset Police says officers responded to disorder on Bournemouth beach near Pier Approach at around 6pm on Tuesday.

Police say a fight led to a larger disturbance involving a number of people.

Officers already on patrol responded quickly and were supported by additional resources including a police dog and the NPAS helicopter.

During the incident, officers were met with violence and hostility, with glass bottles and other objects thrown at them.

Three people were arrested: a 22-year-old man from Tottenham on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, a 17-year-old boy from Southampton on suspicion of assault and affray, and a 17-year-old boy from the Portsmouth area on suspicion of affray.

Police say reports online that someone was stabbed are incorrect, and they are not aware of any stab wounds or serious injuries.

Chief Superintendent Julie Howe said the disorder was unacceptable and warned people not to come to Bournemouth intending to cause harm.
