Police respond to Bournemouth beach disorder

Police made arrests after disorder involving a large number of people on Bournemouth beach near Undercliff Drive.

Officers were called to the area on Tuesday evening following reports of violence and anti-social behaviour involving a large crowd gathering near the beachfront. Dorset Police confirmed officers remained at the scene with support from the National Police Air Service helicopter while efforts continued to disperse those involved and restore order safely.

It was also reported that police officers were assaulted during the incident. Police said the behaviour shown towards officers would “not be tolerated” as investigations into the disorder continue. A large police presence remained in the area while officers worked to protect members of the public and those responding to the incident.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan thanked “law-abiding members of the public for their support” and issued a direct warning to anyone intent on causing violence or harm to leave the vicinity immediately.

He added: “There will be a large police presence in the area while we seek to keep the public and our officers safe.

“We have commenced an investigation into the disorder and we will continue to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Mr Callaghan also praised the actions of officers involved, thanking them for their “professional and courageous actions during this incident.”
