Safe Places scheme expands across BCP

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council says the Safe Places Scheme has expanded to 175 venues across the area.

Safe Places are registered shops, cafés, community spaces and other venues where people can go if they feel anxious, scared, lost or at risk.

Staff at participating venues are trained to offer reassurance, help make a phone call or support someone to get home safely.

There are now 102 Safe Places in Bournemouth, 57 in Poole and 16 in Christchurch.

The scheme is delivered locally by People First Forum as part of the national Safe Places network.

Councillor Kieron Wilson said the project helps create safer and more inclusive communities.

Local businesses are being encouraged to sign up and join the scheme.
