Vikki Slade and other Liberal Democrat MPs from Dorset and Wiltshire have met Fire Minister Samantha Dixon to raise concerns about funding for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The MPs say the service is among the worst funded in the country and argue the current funding formula disadvantages rural areas.
The meeting followed concerns over proposed closures of fire stations across Dorset and Wiltshire.
Ms Slade said rural and tourist areas place additional pressure on public services, including fire and rescue.
The MPs welcomed a commitment to continue engagement with the fire service and begin work on a wider review of the funding formula.
Ms Slade said she would continue pushing to protect fire stations and support firefighters.
