Fire off Mannings Heath Road in Poole

Emergency services are responding to a fire at a recycling facility in Poole near Mannings Heath Road.

The incident happened around lunchtime at SUEZ close to the junction with Ling Road, with emergency crews attending the scene as smoke spread across the surrounding area.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the road was closed while firefighters worked to deal with the blaze and keep people away from the affected site.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area during the emergency response, with disruption reported near Mannings Heath Retail Park as crews continued their work.

Residents living nearby were also asked to take precautions because of the smoke coming from the fire.

DWFRS report: “We were called at 12.33pm today (19 May) to Mannings Heath Road, Poole to reports of a fire affecting a recycling centre. Nine crews are currently in attendance from Poole (x2), Westbourne, Redhill Park, Springbourne, Ferndown, Wimborne and Christchurch (x2) alongside the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne, a command unit from Hamworthy, two support vehicles from Poole and a water carrier from Ringwood (Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS).

“Firefighters are currently using multiple jets to extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading.

“The road is currently closed and local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.”

Emergency crews remained at the scene as the response continued, with the road closure helping firefighters manage the area safely while tackling the fire.

The post from DWFRS said: “We are currently dealing with a waste fire near Mannings Heath Retail Park, Poole so please avoid the area.

“There may also be considerable smoke, so local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
