New controlled crossings planned for Poole roads

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has announced plans to install two new toucan crossings in Poole.

One crossing is proposed for Parkstone Road at the junction with Birds Hill Road, creating a safer route linking Poole Park with Birds Hill Road.

The Parkstone Road scheme was identified as a high-priority project and received £300,000 in funding in May 2025.

A second toucan crossing is planned for Turlin Road outside Bayside Academy.

Toucan crossings are signal-controlled crossings designed for both pedestrians and cyclists.

The council says the measures are intended to improve safety in areas with high footfall and close to schools.

Residents can view the proposals and submit comments through the council’s highway consultations page. Representations must be received by 29 May 2026 and should quote reference C7 2026.
