Dorset HealthCare has opened Chaddesley House at St Ann’s Hospital, with patients expected to begin moving into the new facility from the end of May.
The purpose-built unit includes specialist adult wards for men and women needing intensive mental health treatment and forms part of a £70.6 million programme funded through the Government’s New Hospital Programme.
The new building increases inpatient capacity and replaces older facilities on the St Ann’s site, with further refurbishment works planned over the next two years.
Matthew Bryant said the facility would allow more people to receive high-quality care closer to home, with improved environments designed alongside service users.
A second project, an £17.9 million specialist unit for children and young people in Bournemouth, is due to open this summer.
