Coronation Street actor James Cartwright has been announced for this year’s Bournemouth Pavilion pantomime, Aladdin.
The actor, currently appearing in Coronation Street as Theo Silverton, will play the villain Abanazar during the Christmas run at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre. Organisers say the production will run from Saturday 5 December 2026 until Sunday 3 January 2027.
James Cartwright said he was looking forward to spending the festive season in Bournemouth and performing for local audiences. He said: “Pantomime has such a brilliant tradition, and I’m super excited to dive into that world.”
He joins previously announced cast members Jamie Steen, who will play Widow Twankey, and Noel Brodie, who returns for his 12th year in the production as Wishee Washee. Further casting announcements are expected in the coming months.
Producer Martin Dodd of UK Productions said James Cartwright’s television role and stage presence made him well suited to the role of Abanazar. He said audiences could expect “magic, mischief and deliciously dastardly moments” during the show’s run.
Steve Turner, Director of Venues for BH Live, described the casting as “another fantastic casting announcement” for the annual Bournemouth pantomime.
This year’s production will also include a relaxed performance on Wednesday 30 December and a captioned performance on Monday 21 December. Organisers say local young performers from across the region will also be involved in the show.
Aladdin will take place at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre throughout the Christmas and New Year period.
