Jail for attack on pensioner

Dorset Police has praised members of the public who helped an elderly woman after she was assaulted in Poole.

The 89-year-old victim, who was using a wheelchair following hip surgery, was attacked outside a restaurant in Haven Road in September 2025.

Police say the woman was pushed from her wheelchair by a man carrying a wooden bat and suffered serious injuries, including a bleed to the brain.

Forty-six-year-old Miroslaw Kochaniec, from Bournemouth, has now been sentenced to two years and six months in prison after admitting grievous bodily harm.

Detectives thanked bystanders who came to the woman’s aid and helped detain the attacker before officers arrived.
