Dorset remains one of England’s safest counties as crime falls

New figures from the Office for National Statistics show overall crime in Dorset has fallen by 9.2 per cent.

That compares to a national decrease of just 1.9 per cent.

Dorset Police say there have been reductions in several key areas, including violence, theft, burglary and stalking.

Violence against a person fell by more than seven per cent, while offences resulting in injury dropped by over 12 per cent.

Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell said the figures reflect ongoing work to prevent crime and target offenders.

However, there were some increases, including a rise in sexual offences and robbery.

Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said Dorset is now the fourth safest area in the country.

He added that tackling shoplifting remains a priority, with efforts continuing to support businesses and bring offenders to justice.
