Tributes paid to Dorset councillor

Tributes have been paid following the death of Dorset councillor Barry Goringe.

Dorset Council members marked his passing with a minute’s silence during a recent meeting.

Councillor Goringe, who represented St Leonards and St Ives, died on April 8.

He was first elected in 2019 to the former East Dorset District Council and later became a member of Dorset Council after local government reorganisation.

He also served as deputy chairman of the former district authority.

Councillor Goringe was a member of the council’s public health scrutiny committee.

Colleagues say he was actively involved in local issues, including planning and transport concerns in his area.

Further tributes are expected at the next full council meeting.

His funeral is due to take place next month.
