Rise in e-bike and scooter fire incidents
Fire crews in Dorset and Wiltshire responded to several incidents involving electric bikes and scooters last year.
Figures released through a Freedom of Information request show Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service recorded 9 fires involving e bikes and 4 involving e scooters during the year.
The data forms part of national figures showing more than 600 fires involving the vehicles across the United Kingdom in 2025.
Experts say concerns are growing about the safety of batteries used in some electric bikes and scooters.
They warn that batteries purchased from poorly regulated online marketplaces are often more likely to malfunction.
Fire services continue to highlight the importance of using approved batteries and chargers to reduce the risk of fire and electrical faults.
