Man assists police in Bournemouth fraud case

Police say a man has come forward to assist enquiries into a reported fraud linked to a car sale in Bournemouth.

The investigation relates to an incident between 3pm and 4pm on 6 March 2026 after a vehicle advertised on Facebook Marketplace was reportedly purchased using counterfeit banknotes.

The victim reported that a man attended an address in the Turbary Park Avenue area to buy the car and paid the full £1800 using Bank of England £20 notes.

After the sale was completed and paperwork signed, the buyer left with the vehicle.

When the victim later took the cash to the bank the following Monday, they were informed that the notes were counterfeit.

Dorset Police issued an image appeal as part of the investigation.

Following that appeal, a man has now come forward and is assisting officers with their enquiries as investigations continue.
