£7.7m highways upgrade approved for BCP

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has approved a major investment package to improve roads across the area.

Councillors backed the four-year capital programme at a meeting on March 24.

More than £7.7 million will be spent between April 2026 and March 2027 on highways maintenance, including preventative patching, resurfacing and micro-asphalt treatments designed to reduce potholes.

The funding will also support upgrades to highway structures and traffic signals.

One of the key projects will be improvements to the Castle Lane East and Deansleigh Road junction outside the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The council has also secured £2.95 million for active travel improvements after being recognised by Active Travel England for delivering high-quality schemes.

The funding will support new crossings, improved walking and cycling routes and secure cycle parking.

Councillor Andy Hadley said the investment will help make everyday journeys safer and more reliable for residents while supporting future transport improvements across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
