Grants boost parks and community hubs

More than £1.4million has been awarded to community projects in Bournemouth and Poole.

BCP Council says 81 initiatives will receive funding through the latest round of the Community Infrastructure Levy neighbourhood grants programme.

The funding supports projects requested by residents, businesses and community groups and will be used to improve local facilities and public spaces.

Projects include restoring tennis courts in Southbourne, supporting redevelopment of Iford’s BMX Club and installing new play equipment at Riverlands, Seafield Gardens, Mandale Road and Slades Farm.

Funding will also support improvements around Bournemouth Station roundabout, including landscaping, murals and public artwork.

Other projects include new ponds at Manorside Academy and Pelham’s Park, 21 new benches in local parks and investment in youth and community centres.

Councillor Millie Earl said the funding shows what can be achieved when the council works with communities to deliver projects that matter locally.

CIL funding comes from charges paid by developers when new homes are built and is reinvested into community projects.
