Seafront walk to raise funds for prostate care

A seafront walk in Bournemouth will bring people together to support prostate cancer patients across Dorset.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is hosting its annual March for Men event on Saturday 28 March, inviting people to walk or run a 5km or 10km route along the seafront to raise funds for prostate cancer care.

Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer in men, with more than 64,000 people diagnosed across the UK each year. In Dorset alone, 1,585 people were referred to University Hospitals Dorset prostate cancer teams in 2025, with around 30% diagnosed with cancer.

Jim Voss, urology consultant at University Hospitals Dorset, said the disease affects many families locally. He said teams meet patients “every single day” and added that “no one should have to navigate a cancer diagnosis and treatment journey alone”.

Money raised through the event will help fund new equipment, support projects and other improvements for patients and their families beyond what the NHS can provide.

Participants can take part on their own or with friends, family or colleagues as the community comes together to support people affected by prostate cancer across Dorset.
