Poole Town kept pace in the promotion race with a 3–1 home win against Hungerford Town.

The Dolphins made a fast start at Tatnam Stadium and quickly imposed themselves on the contest, winning early corners and dominating possession as Hungerford were forced to defend deep for long spells during a confident opening period.

Clear chances followed, with the visiting goalkeeper denying both Lowes and Shaq Gwengwe inside the opening 11 minutes, before Poole’s pressure was finally rewarded just before the half hour mark through a moment of quality.

Dan Carr unlocked the defence with a measured pass to Gwengwe, who showed composure to finish low into the corner from close range, giving Poole a deserved lead after sustained control.

Poole continued to create opportunities before the break and went close to extending the advantage, with Carr narrowly missing after being played in, as the hosts went in ahead having dictated the tempo.

After absorbing a brief spell of pressure early in the second half, Poole struck again on 54 minutes when Antonio Diaz crossed from the left and Gwengwe headed home his second and his 30th league goal of the season.

The result was effectively sealed ten minutes later when Harvey Slade fired a powerful strike from distance into the top corner, before Hungerford pulled one back late on, with Poole seeing the game out calmly to remain third on 55 points ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Yate Town.
