Council housing rated at highest level

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has been awarded the highest possible rating for social housing standards in England following a national inspection.

The Regulator of Social Housing has given BCP Homes, the council’s housing service, a C one rating, the top category available. The authority is one of only seven councils in England to achieve this outcome, covering its nine thousand six hundred rented homes across the area.

Inspectors praised the council’s approach to repairs, housing quality, safety and day to day management. The assessment also highlighted engagement with residents, timely responses to repairs and progress in tackling antisocial behaviour.

Councillor Kieron Wilson, cabinet member for housing and regulatory services, said the result reflected strong involvement from tenants and staff, adding that resident feedback plays a key role in shaping services.

Resident Roger Smithers, who has lived in a BCP Homes property for nearly fifty years, said issues such as antisocial behaviour have improved significantly in recent years and described quick support when repairs were needed.

Stephen Smedley, a member of the Residents Advisory Board, said the rating showed residents have a clear voice and can influence improvements.
