Late Brighton goal denies Cherries victory
Bournemouth were denied a valuable away win after conceding a late equaliser at Brighton on Monday night.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when Marcus Tavernier calmly converted a penalty, awarded after Amine Adli was fouled in the area, capping a positive opening spell that also saw Evanilson strike the post.
Brighton applied increasing pressure after the break, forcing Bournemouth into a series of defensive actions, with Djordje Petrovic making several saves as corners and blocked shots mounted during a sustained spell around the penalty area.
Despite injuries and substitutions disrupting Bournemouth’s rhythm, the Cherries appeared set to claim all three points until stoppage time, when Charalampos Kostoulas finished from close range following a headed pass into the box.
The match ended level after extended added time, with Bournemouth forced to settle for a point after a disciplined performance that limited Brighton for long periods, but ultimately could not prevent a late breakthrough.
