Town centre injunctions aim to boost safety
Anti social behaviour injunctions are now in force in Bournemouth town centre following joint action to improve safety.
Two injunctions have been secured by BCP Council’s anti social behaviour team and Community Safety Accredited Scheme officers, working alongside Dorset Police and Bournemouth Town Centre BID, as part of coordinated efforts to address behaviour that affects how the town centre is used.
In a statement posted on Facebook on January 9th, the council said the injunctions were an important step in protecting people from harm and tackling behaviour that undermines safety, adding that partnership working was helping to build confidence in Bournemouth.
The measures sit alongside wider plans for the area. Last year, the council’s cabinet agreed to designate Bournemouth town centre as the first location in the conurbation to trial High Street Rental Auctions, a scheme intended to bring vacant shops back into use, with work understood to be under way.
Footfall data released last year showed 10.2 million trips were made to Bournemouth town centre during June, July and August, linked to a programme of seasonal events.
Dorset Police figures show antisocial behaviour has fallen by 6 per cent in Bournemouth town centre and 18 per cent across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Residents are being encouraged to report incidents when they see them.
