Buses to replace Dorset trains for a week

Rail passengers in Dorset are being urged to plan ahead as engineers carry out essential maintenance and upgrade work between Bournemouth and Dorchester South later this month.

Between Saturday 15 and Friday 21 November, buses will replace trains while Network Rail teams strengthen the railway embankment in Hamworthy and improve drainage at the Poole sidings. The work aims to protect the line from flooding and ensure a more reliable service in the long term.

Further west, engineers will also replace the wheel timbers on the River Frome bridge near Wool with modern Fibre-reinforced Foamed Urethane supports to extend the life of the structure. Improvements to the station footbridge at Wool will also be completed during the closure.

On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November, buses will run between Bournemouth and Dorchester South. From Monday 17 to Friday 21 November, the replacement service will operate between Poole and Dorchester South.

Mark Goodall, Wessex Route Director at Network Rail, said the teams will be working around the clock to strengthen key parts of the line and improve resilience for the years ahead.

Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling through the National Rail or South Western Railway websites.
