Castlepoint in Bournemouth will host Sustainable September this weekend, with a focus on reusing and repurposing everyday items.
The shopping park is welcoming Verte, a circular clothing company from London, on Saturday and Sunday. They are inviting shoppers to bring up to five clean pre-loved items to swap for tokens, which can then be exchanged for other second-hand clothes. Verte will also provide free styling advice and carry out small clothing repairs on-site.
The company has worked with well-known names such as Soho House and Westfield to encourage people to cut down on clothing waste and find new uses for garments. Their visit to Bournemouth is part of Castlepoint’s wider programme to promote sustainable shopping habits.
On Sunday, Verte will be joined by Brothers Make, a Bournemouth-based business that has built a following for its hands-on recycling projects. They will run a drop-in workshop outside M\&S where shoppers can turn at least three plastic bottle tops into a custom-made trolley token using their specially designed machine.
Castlepoint Centre Manager David Pickett said the weekend would help bring greener messages to everyday shopping. He added: “We firmly believe in the collective effort of the many, rather than big actions by a few, as we come together as a community to change habits and evolve our thinking around repurposing and waste reduction.”
Activities will run throughout the weekend outside M&S, with organisers aiming to inspire Bournemouth shoppers to think more carefully about how they can reduce waste and reuse items.
