Seafood and Sounds Festival returns to Poole this month

The Seafood and Sounds Festival will return to Poole this September, bringing two days of food, live music and family activities across Old Town and the Quay.

Taking place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September, the festival opens with a colourful parade at 11am on the Saturday. The procession will be led by Jamie Jigsaw, the Mayor of Poole, Samba Panashe carnival band, RNLI crews, Pirates of Poole and community groups. Residents and visitors are invited to join in, with prizes for the best seafood-themed costumes and “fish on sticks” creations.

Music will feature heavily across the weekend, with six live stages at Poole Museum, The Sea Sculpture, Customs House, Poole Arms, St James’ Church and The Fish Shambles. Evening gigs will also take place in local venues.

An artisan market will be set up in the historic Scaplen’s Court, showcasing more than 20 local makers and producers. Food lovers can enjoy a wide range of seafood stalls and dishes from restaurants along the Quay.

Families can take part in an Oyster Trail treasure hunt, free workshops at Hotel Du Vin and St James’ Church, and enjoy entertainment from Jamie Jigsaw and Scaplen’s Community Players.

The festival has been organised by five Poole business owners and is described as an event created “for the community, by the community.” A Grand Raffle will raise money towards next year’s festival, with 20 percent of proceeds going to Forest Holme Hospice.

The event is supported by headline sponsor The Dolphin, alongside Poole BID, Poole Harbour Commissioners, Absolute Music, Hotel Du Vin, Breeze Volkswagen and other local partners.

Free programmes will be available across the town from today ahead of the festival weekend.
